Florida Highway Patrol responded to reports of an accident involving four vehicles on Dec. 22. The accident involved three cars and a tractor-trailer. One of the victims suffered minor personal injury. Unfortunately, another victim was killed in the crash.

The accident occurred around 6:40 p.m. on a recent Friday evening. Authorities report that a man driving a pickup truck collided with a big rig while attempting to make a right turn onto State Road 70. The force of the collision forced the truck into oncoming traffic where it struck a third vehicle. After colliding with the tractor-trailer, the smaller vehicle spun around and overturned. The big rig continued forward and crashed into the front of a fourth vehicle, which was then knocked into a nearby ditch.

When authorities arrived they discovered that two of the drivers were unharmed, and the driver of the overturned car had suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the fourth car, which had been knocked into the ditch, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, who was responsible for the initial crash, was charged with DUI manslaughter, several counts of DUI property damage and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Victims of accidents, like this one, that result in personal injury could benefit from speaking to an attorney. A local attorney may be able to help Florida victims and/or their families to determine if they are entitled to compensation. This compensation may be used to help pay for medical treatment needed as a result of the accident, property damage caused by the accident, or funeral costs and other financial losses if the accident resulted in the death of one of the victims.
