Drag race results in the personal injury of multiple individuals

Drag racing is often glamorized in movies and on TV. Cars and trucks seem to fly down empty roadways with professional precision, but reality is rarely as neat. A drag race gone wrong in Florida resulted in the personal injury of multiple individuals who were not directly involved in the race.

The race took place between two pickup trucks on West Sligh Avenue around 10:30 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Both trucks were driving westbound at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. One of the trucks struck another vehicle at the intersection of West Sligh Avenue and Florida Avenue. The crash caused the other vehicle to collide with an electric pole, and the driver of the pickup truck collided with a second vehicle.

This crash resulted in multiple injuries and one fatality. The passenger of the car that collided with the electric pole was killed in the crash, and the driver of that car was severely injured. The driver of the car involved in the second crash also suffered minor injuries. Authorities have charged the driver of one of the pickup trucks with vehicular homicide, reckless driving resulting in injury, both minor and serious, property damage, as well as illegal street racing.

Accidents like these, unfortunately, can result in the personal injury of innocent bystanders. Florida residents who have been injured as a result of an accident could benefit from speaking with a lawyer. An attorney may be able to help victims and their families to receive compensation for injuries and property damages, as well as funeral costs, when applicable.
