Drunk driving suspected in car crash

Many people have had personal experience, or know someone who has, with a drunk individual. Florida residents, in particular, have become accustomed to seeing vacation-goers occasionally overindulge in alcohol. There are many people who take proper precautions when they plan to drink large amounts of alcohol by making sure that there is a sober driver present or by calling a rideshare service. However, there are others who forget to take these precautions or who do not believe they are as impaired as they are. Unfortunately, in many of these cases, the result is a car crash caused by drunk driving.

A crash involving two vehicles occurred on Interstate 275 southbound on Oct. 31. It was reported to be early in the morning, around 3:30 AM, when one car hit the rear of another. There were three people involved in the crash: the two drivers and one passenger.

Florida Highway Patrol has alleged that the driver of the rear vehicle was speeding when the crash occurred. The second driver was unable to keep her vehicle under control after the collision. Her passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities also suspect that the driver of the allegedly at-fault vehicle was intoxicated. The driver of the first car has been charged with DUI manslaughter.

Unfortunately, it isn't unusual for drunk driving accidents to involve multiple vehicles, and there is always a chance that those crashes will have deadly outcomes. Florida residents who have been accused of drunk driving may benefit from contacting an attorney. With an attorney's help, the accused may be able to build a strong defense and improve the chances of a more favorable outcome.
